5/12 Wags Trip

Made a trip to Walgreens last night (I had some Register Rewards that were expiring!) and I wanted to share my deals with you.

I did 2 separate transactions:

Transaction 1:
2 Cottonelle Toilet Paper- $10
2 Colgate Toothpastes- 2/$6
1 Carefree liners- $.99

I used the following coupons:
2- $.50/1 Cottonelle and $1/1 Wags IVC (from the booklet)- takes off $2
2- $.75/1 Colgate toothpaste (SS 5/01/11)
1- Free Carefree liners (or up to $1 off- SS 5/08/11)

total: $11.50
paid with $8 RR from last week, a $3 off Walgreens grand opening coupon, and the rest in cash (I had to add in 3 fillers to make up for those 3 coupons) and I got back:
$3 RR for the Cottonelle
$4 RR for the  Colgate

Transaction 2:
2 Colgate Toothbrushes- 2/$6
2 Pantene- 2/$6
1 Carefree liners- $.99

I used the following coupons:
2- $.75/1 Colgate toothbrush
1- $3/2 Pantene
1- $.99/1 Carefree

Total: $7.50
Paid with the $3 RR from the Cottonelle from trans #1 and another $3 Walgreens grand opening coupon (added one filler) and I got back:
$4 RR for the Colgate
$1 RR for the Pantene

So for all these items, I paid less than $5 (mostly to cover the tax and filler items) and got back $9 in Register Rewards to use next week! I love Wags!

*For those in South OC, a new Walgreens opened on El Toro (corner of El Toro and Trabuco, next to the Fresh and Easy.) The store is HUGE and gorgeous! They also have the $3 off coupons on the front of their circulars, that's another reason I split up my transactions :)

Walgreens- Cheap TP, free flossers, cheap razors, and free body wash!

Made a quick trip to Wags when the hubby got home from work- we were out of toilet paper! Good thing there is a sweet deal this week! While I was there, I picked up a few other items as  well :)

Cottonelle 12 pk TP
*Current RR deal: buy 2, get back $3 RR, buy 3 or more, get back $4 RR* (until 5/15)
I bought 2 packs and used the following coupons:
2x .50/1 MQ (Manufacturer Coupon)  (print 2)
1x $1/1 IVC (Instant Value Coupon- found in the booklet in the front of store) takes off $2
$10- $3= $7, got back $3 RR= $4 for 2 packs of TP

I also picked up:

Noxema 4pk. disposable razors $3.99- *$3 RR
used $2/1 (5/1 RP)
Paid $1.99, got back $3 RR (profit $1.01)

GUM Ez flossers $2- *$2 RR
used .75/1
Paid $1.25, got back $2 RR (profit $.75)

2 Right Guard Body Wash- BOGO
used BOGO coupon (5/1 RP)- both FREE (I will still have to pay tax on this!)

My total was a little over $10. I used RR from last week to "pay" for everything (also got some cheap nail polish as "filler" items) and got back $8 in Register Rewards for my next trip ;)

Again- my coupon philosophy is to buy things when they are on sale or running with a store promotion- and to only buy things my family WILL use!

Don't forget- at Walgreens, your total number of coupons CAN NOT exceed the number of items you are purchasing! Throw in some cheap candy or pencils (called "filler items") to be sure your coupon to item ratio is at least equal! Register Rewards count as coupons too! Before I check out, I do a quick count. Items and coupons. If I have more coupons than items, I simply grab some gum or the cheap candy at the front to make my totals equal. It's worth it in my book.

It's a Freebie Frenzy at Walgreens This Week!

Walgreens has some HOT freebies and even a few money makers goin' on this week! Here is a list of my favorite freebies I am going to snag :)

(Most of the freebies I talk about are "free" when you factor in the RR's you get back! Unless you plan on doing 6 or 7 separate transactions and roll one RR to the next, you will still have to come out of pocket with some money.)

Schick Disposable Quattro Titanium for Men 3pk. $5.99
$4/1 Schick Quattro or Xtreme3 Razors exp. 5/2 (SS 3/21/10)
Get back $1 RR and a $3 RR (overlapping RR deal or glitch in the system! Hurry and grab these now- this won't last!) $2 money maker!
*I just read that the women's Schick Quattros are triggering the cats as well! Nice!

Stayfree Maxi Pads $2.99- get back $2.99 RR (it will print a $3 RR)
$2/1 Stayfree product exp. 6/30/10 (RP 3/28/10)
$1/1 Stayfree product exp. 6/30/10 (SS 4/25/10)
Free after RR, money maker with coupon!

Plackers Dental Flossers (90ct.) $2- get back a $2 RR
.50/1 Plackers Dental Flossers exp. 7/31/10 (RP 4/18/10)
Free or money maker with coupon!

Skintimate Shave Cream 6 oz. $2.99- get a $2.99 RR ($3 will print)
$1.50/2 select Skintimate products exp. 5/16/10 (SS 3/28/10)
Free, or $1.50 for 2 if you use the above coupon.

Clio BeautyTrim Personal Trimmer $4.99
Free after $4.99 RR!

You can  buy these all at once and end up with $17 in RR's for next time- or buy each item in separate transactions, using the previous RR to "buy" the next item, and so on. DO NOT FORGET to factor in any "filler items"- Walgreens registers will not allow more coupons than items- so grab some cheap candy or a couple pencils to fill in the holes- and remember a RR is counted as a coupon :) ALSO- the RR from the Schick is the same manufacturer as the Skintimate, so you can't use either to pay for the other, or the new RR won't print!

If you were to just buy all of the above (make sure you always do a coupon/item count! If you use any RR's, you may need some filler items! Grab some gum or pencils- or clearance Easter items!) and factor in the RR's and rebate, the total for everything would be about $2.00 plus tax! How can you not love that?!?! (you will actually "pay" about $24 plus tax, but get back $22.00- $17.50 in RR's and the $4.50 rebate!)

*I purchased all the above and then some, and ended up spending .87 oop (factoring in the $4.50 rebate and $18.50 RR's I got back) I will post that trip later :)

My Trip to Walgreens

Well, I officially made my first "big trip" to Walgreens this morning. I have never planned out a Wags trip- I usually just pop in for a few small items I can get super cheap here and there, or when I go to pick up a prescription. (And if I happened to get a register reward or have a coupon, it wasn't that big of a deal to me!) Today was the last day of their most recent circular, and I discovered that I had a lot of coupons that worked well with the sale- most of which expire sometime this weekend.

The first thing I did was print out the Walgreens shopping list from grocerysmarts (I printed the entire list, so I could make notes and see any other promos that are going on which may not be advertised in the circular), next, I checked out iheartwags for some ideas and freebie scenarios-and then I got down to business :)

Being that this was my first "big" trip, I decided that I wanted to focus on all the products I had coupons for which offered Register Rewards- that way I could use those earned RR's next time. I thought about making 2 separate transactions at this one trip (get some RR's first, then roll them over to the next) but since I am still learning about this little game, I wanted to see just how much I saved overall.

I'm not going to lie- it took me a good solid half hour to write my list and sort my coupons, but once I had them all together, the shopping was a piece of cake (well- shopping is always a piece of cake for me!)

So here is the breakdown of my trip- I think I did a pretty good job, considering the fact that I didn't go in with any RR's or past experience... *Totals out of pocket (OOP) factor in any register reward (RR) earned or mail in rebate (MIR).

  • 6 boxes of Kleenex- 2.29ea; on sale B1G1; used (2) .50/3; earned 3.00 RR- total OOP after RR= 2.87 (about 48 cents a box!)

  • 2 Glade plug-ins oil refills- 5.99ea; on sale B1G1; used free warmer w/ refill coupon; 5.88 OOP- but- qualifies for SC Johnson MIR (5.00) so grand total is 99 cents for all 3!

  • 3 Glade room sprays- 2.49ea; used (3) 1.00/1 MQ and .50/1 WQ; total OOP 2.97- also qualifies for SC Johnson MIR (5.00) so that makes this a 2.03 money maker!

  • 2 Purex 3-1 detergent sheets- 2 for 9.00; used B1G1 coupon; earned 1.00 RR; total OOP 3.50 for both/ 1.75 each!

  • 1 Colgate toothpaste- 2.99; used 1.00 off WQ, .75/1 MQ; earned 2.00 RR= FREE and a .76 money maker!

  • 1 Lady Speed Stick- 1.99; used 1.00/1 MQ; earned 1.00 RR= FREE (one penny money maker! Woo-hoo!)

  • 2 Aveeno baby shampoo- 4.79ea; used 3.00/1 MQ; earned 3.00 RR; total OOP 3.58 or 1.79 each (this is a steal for Aveeno!)

  • 4 Nivea lip gloss/ chapstick- 3.29 and 3.99 (I got 2 of each); used 2 B1G1 MQ; and WQ which made them .99- so it looks like this: (3.29 + 3.29+ 3.99+ 3.99) - 6.58 (they take the lower price off for the B1G1) and then -10.60 (the Walgreens coupon adjusts the current price of all 4 down to 99 cents each- takes off 3.00, 3.00, 2.30, 2.30) SO with all the coupons, they took 17.28 off of 14.56= $2.68 Money Maker! (I hope that made sense, I will break it down at the bottom)

  • 3 boxes Kotex Tampons- 2.99ea; used 1.00/1 MQ and 1.50/2 MQ; earned a 5.00 RR= 1.47 OOP (49 cents a box)

  • 4 packs Dentyne gum- 1.39ea; used (2) 1.00/2 MQ and WQ to make them .69/ea (takes .70 off per pack); total OOP .76 (19 cents a pack)

  • 2 Sudafed PE- 4.99; used (2) 1.50/1 MQ; earned 5.00 RR; total OOP 1.98 (99 cents each)

  • 4 cans Campbells soup- 1.50ea; used 1.00/4 MQ and WQ to make them .79/ea (takes off .71 per can); total OOP 2.16 (.54 per can)

  • 4 Vicks DayQuil- 5.00ea; used (4) 1.50/1 MQ; earned a 10.00 RR; total OOP 4.00 (1.00 a box!- with allergy season coming- I really need this!)

My grand total was $64.51 BUT...
I got back 30.00 in Register Rewards and get 10.00 back in MIR's!

Once all is said and done, my official total was: $24.51! And I saved $113.95 with coupons :) Not too shabby for my first time, if I may say so myself ;)

So next time I walk into Walgreens, I will have $30 in Register Rewards to roll, not to mention $10 in rebates heading my way! Let the games begin!

*Here is a quick explanation for the Nivea lip care (using a different scenario with gum- thank you krazycouponlady) and why it is important to hand the cashier your manufacturer coupons before your Walgreens coupons:

{BUY 2} Dentyne Gum Regular Price $1.00 each

-Manufacturer coupon for Buy 1, Get 1 FREE (or -$1.00)

-Walgreen’s In Ad Coupon for 2/$1 (or-$1.00- adjusts price to .50/ea)

Final Price: FREE

Here’s what it would look like if you gave them the in-ad coupon first:

{BUY 2} Dentyne Gum Regular Price $1.00 each-Walgreen’s In Ad Coupon for 2/$1 (or-$1.00)
-Manufacturer coupon for Buy 1, Get 1 FREE (or -$.50)

Final Price: $.50

Grocery Shopping at a Drug Store?

I have recently discovered that drug stores are often the best place to score great deals on not only toiletries and medication, but everyday grocery items as well! Milk, eggs, bread, tuna, soup- most kitchen staples can be found in a drug store at great low prices. When there is a stacking scenario- well that just sweetens the deal!
I was telling my friend, Jill, about some canned tomato sauce I bought last week at Walgreens. There was an in-ad coupon which made the sauce 39 cents a can. I also had a manufacturer coupon for 1.00 off 3. SO I bought 3- which would be $1.17 with just the Walgreens coupon BUT then add in the manuf. coupon- takes a dollar off- I got 3 cans for 17 cents! You can't beat that! (Sidenote- I did not make a special trip to Walgreens for 3 cans of tomato sauce! I had a decent size list of things we needed or things we can use, and I had to fill a prescription as well!)
Here are two awesome websites that highlight CVS and Walgreens deals and match-ups for the week (their week is Sun-Sat)- this girl is amazing- check out how she does it- most of the stuff she gets is virtually free!
